Real Madrid’s injury problems worsened on Saturday as attacking player Rodrygo and defender Eder Militao were substituted during the first half of their La Liga match against Osasuna. The captain too sustains a muscle injury in the final minute of the first half. The joy of Real Madrid scoring twice in the first forty-five minutes was dashed when the Brazilian pair and the captain were substituted within 20 minutes.
Twenty minutes into the match at Santiago Bernabeu, winger Rodrygo was the first player off the field. Before Brahim Diaz took his place, the young player, who had just recovered from a hamstring injury, looked impressive. Eder Militao also required medical aid ten minutes later. Militao was stretchered off and replaced by Academy recruit Raul Asencio.
The way this happened with Eder’s injury clearly shocked a number of Real Madrid players on the field. Nevertheless, despite his teammates’ best attempts to comfort him, Rodrygo also seemed very dejected while sitting on the bench.
Another tragedy occurred when Lucas Vazquez fell to his knock and was replaced in the second half, Lucas Modric emerged to take the armband.
For Carlo Aneclotti’s Real Madrid, who already lack captain and starting right-back Dani Carvajal, Militao’s injury is much more concerning. After sustaining a catastrophic ACL injury early in the season, the Spaniard’s season is gone.
The dynamic Austrian international David Alaba is also expected to fully recover from an ACL tear. Moreover, the reigning La Liga winners, who have finished second to bitter rivals Barcelona this season, are without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
Real Madrid won 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior in the 34th and 42nd minutes of play, respectively. Vini, the runner-up for the Balon d’Or, completed his hat-trick with goals in the 61st and 69th minutes of play.
Carlo Ancelotti did not take the chance and subbed the hattrick hero Vinicious jr and Jude Bellingham, who scored and assisted a goal.
There are now seven Real Madrid injuries on the list.
